Why did my email bounce?

Paste the "undeliverable" or "delivery failure" message you got back, and this explains it in plain English: what went wrong, whose problem it is, and what to do about it.

Everything from the email that came back, including the technical part at the bottom. In Outlook and Gmail, opening the message and selecting all of it is enough. Nothing you paste is stored.

How it works

Bounces are written for mail servers, not people.

Somewhere in every bounce is a code, such as 550 5.1.1, and a line of explanation from the server that refused the message. The codes are standard, so this reads them first. Then it looks for the wording that says what the codes don't, such as which blocklist the sending server is on.

It works best with the whole message, including the technical section at the bottom that most email programs hide behind "details" or "show original".

Nothing you paste is kept. It is read, explained and thrown away, and it is sent in a way that stays out of the website's request logs. More on privacy.
